All-party meet: Uma Bharti protests outside PM's residence
LAST UPDATE: Thursday, 7 Aug 2008 - 5:00:41 AM

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janshakti Party leader Uma Bharti on Wednesday created a flutter outside Prime Minister's residence here demanding entry into the all-party meeting on Amarnath issue but was taken into custody by police.

Just minutes before the meeting was to begin, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and some of her associates attempted to storm into the official Race Course residence of the Prime Minister for participating in it. She was not an invitee to the meeting.

They staged a dharna at the main gate despite police warning them to vacate the place.

Bharti and her associates were immediately taken into custody and taken away to a nearby Chanakyapuri police station.

With tensions flaring up in Jammu as well as Kashmir, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh convened the all-party meeting here to work out a consensus formula to ease tension in the state.
