BJP says Govt completely failed to tackle price rise
LAST UPDATE: Saturday, 29 Mar 2008 - 2:20:32 AM
NEW DELHI: As inflation soared to a 13-month high, the BJP yesterday gave indications of giving the Congress- led coalition a run for its money as it charged the Government with "complete failure" in checking the price spiral. "The government has failed completely to check price rise.
The reason why I am saying this is that this was something which everyone knew was coming," senior BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha told PTI. He said the government had "all the time in the world, not only to anticipate this problem, but also to take steps to tackle it but when you are not able to take care of it despite the forewarning that is where you fail completely.
"The party has already announced its decision to launch a major agitation against the Government on the issue of price rise and make it a issue in coming Assembly elections to corner the UPA. Sinha described the rising prices as "great betrayal of the common man, whose interest the Congress claim to champion.
"In fact, throughout the four years of its existence, the UPA government has failed miserably on the price front and the worst sufferer is the 'aam aadmi' in whose name the government came to power," he said. The main Opposition party has announced that it will on April seven launch a week-long protest against the government on the issue of price rise.
