One killed in Army firing in Jammu
LAST UPDATE: Thursday, 7 Aug 2008 - 5:00:09 AM

NEW DELHI: One person was killed and two injured in the firing by the Army to quell stone-pelting mob on Jammu-Pathankot national highway in curfew-bound Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to a defence spokesman.

There were reports of clashes between pro-Amarnath demonstrators and CRPF men in some areas of Srinagar.

On Tuesday, over a dozen policemen were injured, a police post and government buildings were set ablaze and a railway track was uprooted as violence escalated in Jammu.

At least 14 people have been killed in both the regions, the Kashmir Valley and Jammu, since May 26 when the government first ordered diversion of the land to the SASB.
