Rice from West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a step to check price of rice in open market in the state, the Kerala government yesterday said procedures to bring in rice to Kerala from West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh have been completed.
Rice brought from these states would be distributed to consumers through 'Mavelli stores', the outlets of state run Civil Supplies corporation, at a price lower than market price, an official press release said here. Two varieties of rice were being brought to the state from West Bengal.
The West Bengal government has informed the state that steps have been completed to supply one lakh tonne of rice, the release said. Similarly, all necessary arrangements have been made to procure rice from Andhra Pradesh, it added.
