LAST UPDATE: Saturday, 7 Nov 2009 - 3:49:11 AM
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan yesterday flayed the Centre's decision to disinvest its stakes in profit making public sector undertakings.
Kerala cabinet had the view that the decision was not correct, Achuthanandan told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
The Centre had cut subsidy for Kerala based Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd. This would result in increase of prices of fertilizers, he said.
Farmers would have to pay more for fertilizers at a time when the price of their products came down due to Free Trade Agreement entered between ASEAN countries, he said.
On Centre's assertion that the interests of farmers have been protected with a 'negative list of products', he said the 'so called negative list have not been accepted by any of the ASEAN countries'.
