Woman burnt by lover dies, youth arrested
KALLAMBALAM: A woman, who was set on fire on Friday by her lover after dousing her with petrol, succumbed to the burns on Wednesday. The dead has been identified as Kollam native Ambili (33), who had been staying in a rented house in Kallambalam Seemanthapuram.

I-T action under Benami Act;issues 87 notices; attaches 42 assets worth crores
NEW DELHI: Initiating a stringent action against black money holders post notes ban, the Income Tax department today said it has issued 87 notices and attached bank deposits worth crores in 42 cases nationwide under the newly enforced Benami Transactions Act which attracts a heavy penalty and rigorous jail term of a maximum 7 years.
Post the demonetisation order of the government on November 8 last year, the department had carried out public advertisements and had warned people against depositing their unaccounted old currency in someone else's bank account saying such an act would attract criminal charges under the Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988, applicable on both movable and immovable property, that has been enforced from November 1, 2016.

Revenue secretary to probe academy land issue
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government Tuesday announced a probe on the land permitted to Law Academy Law College. Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan directed revenue secretary to submit a report at the earliest after investigating it. The order was based on the letter of Administrative Reforms Commission chief V S Achuthanandan seeking a probe on the land permitted for them. Former BJP chief V Muraleedharan too had given a letter seeking a probe on it.
